Welcome to The Link Driver Education Program
What is The Link Driver Education Program?
The Link Driver Education Program is for teenagers who are 15 years old and older. Our program is State of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles approved. Our classroom is conveniently offered online or in person along with actual behind the wheel driving time with our State of Indiana approved certified driving instructors. We partner with the following 7 area high schools: Centerville, Connersville, Hagerstown, Lincoln, Northeastern, Richmond and Rushville. You don't have to be a student of one of those high schools to be one of our students. We serve students from all over the Whitewater Valley and surrounding areas.
When can I sign up for driver ed?
Students can sign up for our program as soon as they are 15 years old. With The Link Driver's Education Program, students will complete 30 hours of class room time online or in class as well as 6 hours of behind the wheel training.
Our online class is administered through Driving Brilliance. Per state of Indiana guidelines, students must complete 30 classroom hours as well as the entire course. The online class is our most flexible option as it is completed on the students own time and can be accessed on a computer, tablet and most cell phones.
For students who prefer to take our in person classroom option instead of online, we will offer our 30 hour classroom in the winter (Jan-Mar 2021), summer (2 weeks in June 2021) and fall (August-Sept 2021). Our classroom will be held at our business office in Connersville. We must have at least 5 students in order to offer the classroom. For more information about our upcoming class, click here.
When can I get my learner's permit and what do I need to do for my permit?
As long as you are signed up for an Indiana BMV approved driving school, you can get your learner's permit as soon as your are 15 years old.
Once you have signed up and paid for driver ed, we will send you an email with instructions on how to begin your class, how to study for your permit and what you need to gather for your permit. We will also attach to that email a Certificate of Enrollment form (CDE). You will need to print out the CDE form and take it with you when you go to the BMV to take your learner's permit test.
When you go to the BMV, you will take a test (on paper or computer- your choice). You will also take items that confirm your identity and address as well as the CDE form. Don't worry if you don't pass the test the first time, most students don't pass the first time. You can go back the next day and test again. There is no limit on how many times you take the permit test.
Ok, I have my learner's permit, now what??
Now that you have your permit, practice, practice, practice with your parents as much as possible. The more you practice and listen to your parents, the better driver you will be. If you are nervous, have your parents take you to an empty parking lot where you can practice controlling the car, turns, stops, parking, and backing up. Once you have mastered controlling the car, turns and stops; practicing driving in low traffic arears like a quiet subdivision where you can drive roads with stops and intersections. Then proceed to some city and county road driving. And keep practicing... and work on your driver ed class too!
When can I sign up to drive with an instructor?
Once a student has obtained their learner's permit, they are welcome to sign up for their 6 hours of Behind The Wheel (BTW) driving instruction as long as all driver ed registration fees are paid in full. We drive year round and offer a variety of drive time options and locations; including weekend, school break and after school options. We prefer to drive students in groups of 2-3 as this allows more time for teaching as well as more exposure to a variety of different driving situations. We meet students at our business office in Connersville as well as at the high schools that we serve. Most of our BTW drive sessions are 6 days straight (Mon-Sat). However some of our sessions are 6 weekdays straight, or 1-3 days a week for 2-6 weeks straight, or 3 consecutive weekends (Sat & Sun) or 6 consecutive Saturdays or Sundays.
Students do not have to drive with us right away, some students prefer to get some practice time in with their parents first. For our students who are active in extra-curricular activities, our weekend drive options are very popular and fill up fast. If for some reason, you are unable to find a drive time to work with your schedule, please call us at 765-377-7026. We will try our best to create a BTW schedule that will work for you.
Can I take the driving test (waiver) at The Link instead of the BMV?
Yes, we offer the waiver test for those students that would prefer to take their actual driving test with us instead of the BMV. When you are finished and passed your class as well as the 6 hours of BTW time with our instructor, you can scheduled your waiver test. If you are finished with your classroom instruction prior to the last day of scheduled BTW driving, your driving instructor can go ahead and schedule the driving test with the student once the BTW instruction is completed.
