On October 22, 2009, The Link Board of Directors hosted a breakfast for community leaders with the purpose of raising awareness and to gain support for The Link's Afterschool Extended Learning Program.
                               
         
                                                 
       
Sixty-two community leaders from a wide range of service organizations, government, business, and youth services attended.
                 
   
                 
                           
         
                   
                           
                   
                   
                                                 
                         
                                               
                                                                       
Mayor Leonard Urban and school Superintendent Dr. Russell Hodges both addressed those assembled, sharing their concerns about the youth in our community.
                                                                   
                                                 
                                                     
                                                                       
Donations were presented to the Afterschool Program by the Fayette Regional Health System and JC Penney's Afterschool Round-up program.  
                                                   
                       
                                           
                                                                       
During a brainstorming activity, those attending generated many ideas of how the community could help sustain and support the Afterschool Program.         Taken from The Link Board's Afterschool Sustainability Plan, the following states the shared concern of those present: "The Link Board Members firmly believe that the youth of Fayette County are the future of Fayette County and the most valuable resource we have. We must do everything possible to protect, support, encourage, and challenge them to be the very best they can be."
